India’s first ever Surf Contest was held in Mahabalipuram,Aug 13-14. South India, A culturally rich area with some decent waves.
Some 70 plus surfers showed up to compete in four categories: <20, 20 to 30, 30 to 40 and 40+. There were beginners and advanced surfers and everyone had a fantastic time.

Some 70 plus surfers showed up to compete in four categories: <20, 20 to 30, 30 to 40 and 40+. There were beginners and advanced surfers and everyone had a fantastic time. Waves were OK, but could have been better. This was the event to prove that India is stoked on surfing and surfing is here to stay in India.
The event was sponsored in part by "Ocean and Earth". The chief organizer was Rob Partridge. Hats off to Rob for getting it together!!!! Future surf events for India are already being talked about.
